The most famous question been asked ,specially people from US and European regions .When we closely analyze most comment holders are not travelers and but activists. They pretend to be real animal lovers and but when we peep in to their lives they drink, they eat BBQ huge turkies and they need some thing to discuss that make money online where it goes viral.
We Sri Lankans are civilized nation under Buddhism and never promote cruelty on animals and we dont need special arrangements to take care them and animal rights are protected starting 3000 years ago when these animal rights even not there as concepts.
Sri lanka was ruled for more than 400 years before we took the independence on 1948. So those days the records illustrated Elephants were killed for Tusks . So the new generations are asking why these elephants are chained .
Actually they are chained for few reasons –
1-To Treat for certain illnesses where sedative drugs are not involved
2-To be tainted – It will take some time -As this is an animal sanctuary
3-Male Elephants are seen in some occasions where they stimulate with high sex activities .So to protect the other elephants plus the visitors some times we have to chain them .(Not all the time)
Most occasions you can see them Walking Playing Bathing Freely
So they way you look in to this is matters .If you really don’t like them to be chained ,help us by improving the facilities and land areas.
