1967
Where it all began!Dave and Joan Powell opened up their first shop in the popular Welsh seaside town – Rhyl. The couple took over an old bank building and transformed it into a welcoming family jewellers that catered to locals and tourists alike.
1972 Joan and Dave moved to Prestatyn where they opened their second shop located at 78 High Street.
1974 Greg Powell started working full time at the Prestatyn shop at the young age of 16, trained on the work bench part time, and all the while studying gemmology at night school in Liverpool. He is now a fully certified Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain or FGA for short.
1990 Will and his twin brother Oli standing outside the now closed Llandudno shop looking cheeky as ever, some things never change!
2002 Greg & Will opened their first independent shop located on Chester’s historical Rows, in the former premises of G J H Browns which ceased trading in 2001. Thus continuing on with the buildings well known jewellery heritage since 1878.
2002 Will started his jewellery training at the prestigious Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and is now Chester’s only fully certified diamond graduate of the highest honour.
2010 Greg & Will opened a second shop just around the corner from Powells Vintage Jewellery. This shop specialises in modern contemporary fine jewellery – the perfect complement to the sister shop.
2018 After one of Chester’s most iconic and well known Jewellers & Silvermiths closed its doors for good in June 2018, Powells seized the opportunity and acquired the shop along with its name. They renovated and gave it a new lease of life ready for its re-opening in November 2018.

The store has retained many of its popular attributes, from the silverware to the in-store heritage museum but now specialises in exquisite antique fine jewellery.
