slurry pumps made of natural wear-resistant rubber, and slurry pumps made of ordinary cast iron. Today we are going to talk about a less common material – a slurry pump made of polyurethane. So what are the characteristics of this material? Is it different from other slurry pumps in terms of shaft sealing?

Polyurethane material is a synthetic material made of polymers. Its performance is close to that of rubber material. It has good elasticity, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Compared with rubber material, polyurethane has the advantages of good plasticity and higher hardness. .

The seals of polyurethane slurry pumps are actually the same as those of other material slurry pumps, and can be divided into three types: packing seal, impeller seal, and mechanical seal. We have explained a lot about the characteristics of these three sealing methods. Today I will talk about it in a systematic way so that everyone can understand it.

The packing seal is composed of 4 packings and other small accessories. Its characteristic is that there will be dripping when the pump is running, but it is cheap and the cost of later replacement and maintenance is low. If the environmental requirements of the use site are not particularly high, you can choose this sealing method.

The auxiliary impeller seal is composed of 2 packings, the auxiliary impeller and other small accessories. Its characteristics are similar to those of a packing seal. There will be leakage when starting and stopping the pump, but it is cheap and has low replacement cost. Different from packing, it does not need to add high-pressure shaft seal water, but adds butter. If it is inconvenient to add shaft seal water on site, this sealing method is a good choice.

Mechanical seal is composed of mechanical seal, mechanical seal box and mechanical seal sleeve. Its characteristic is that it can achieve no leakage at all. However, the price of mechanical seal is a little higher than that of packing and impeller. If the liquid being transported is corrosive or leakage is not allowed on site, then choose this sealing method.

Regarding the sealing of polyurethane slurry pumps, that’s probably it. If you want to know more, please contact us!
