The Booker Prize for 2022 will go to Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunathila.
By writing his first novel Chainaman in 2011, he marked a significant literary breakthrough. Chainaman is recognized as the second best novel written on cricket. Seven moons of Mali Almeida, which won the Booker Prize, is his second novel.
It involves a photographer who rises from the dead. He asks his friends where the photographs he took are, revealing the brutality of war.
“”It is a serious philosophical romance that takes the reader into the murderous dark heart of Sri Lanka’s civil war. Once there, the reader is exposed to tenderness and beauty, love and loyalty, and the search for an ideal that justifies all human life.”
He says referring to his work.
“Sri Lanka will soon realize that fraud, corruption and racism have given us nothing and we cannot go far with these ideologies.”
He said in his speech after accepting the award.
